Many people go through life without ever discovering what their life purpose is. One of the main reasons for not discovering your life purpose is due to the false assumption that you don’t have one. Another reason for failing to follow the desires of your soul is that you inadvertently, or sometimes intentionally, take on someone else’s purpose in a vain attempt to please them.
When you follow a career or life path because your parents wanted you to do it then you are not fulfilling your life purpose. When you are in the midst of the wonder of life and enjoying every moment of your existence then you know that you are on the correct path.
When we are young we are taught that we should get a good education so that we can get a good job. Then we should build up our credit so that we can get married, have kids, buy a house, car etc.
We are constantly being bombarded with other people’s views of how we should be living our lives and what path in life we should follow.
When we follow the purpose that our soul has pictured for us and that has set out before us things in life run smoothly and we are filled with joy. The very act of following your life path makes you happy.
Joseph Campbell said it beautifully with his statement, “When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else.
If you want to know what your life purpose is then there is a short exercise you can do to reveal it:
1. Firstly get a pen and a piece of paper.
2. Write down everything you truly want in life.
3. Describe how your perfect life would look, feel and sound. Do not just write down material items. How will your relationships look? What career will have? How will you live your life?
4. Jot down how you could best create this life for yourself.
5. When you are finished you should be filled with awe and a sense that this life would be wonderful.
Now turn over the paper and on the other side put the heading “My Life Purpose Is:”. And start to write down what you think your life purpose is.
You may have several answers. When you find the one that is your true soul purpose in life you will be filled with emotion and will have an inner knowing that this is what you are meant to be doing!
This exercise should take you no longer than 30 minutes then it could change your life forever!
