There is a famous saying that sums-up failure. It also hints at the way tio success no matter what your goal or objective. If you fully grasp the meaning of this statement then you will be able to overcome all failures in your life. So what is the saying?
“There is no such thing as failure, only giving-up!”
Failure is caused by only one thing – lack of persistence. If you never give-up in your attempts to attain a goal then you can never fail! Of course you may encounter temporary set-backs but these are merely challenges to be overcome.
Failure can only happen when you stop trying! Keep trying to attain your goal and eventually you will succeed. The law of mathematics alone will see to that!
If you have only a 1% chance of getting a job then you need to apply for 100 jobs. Apply for 200 and you are certain to get one! Do you see how this works?
Now apart from the law of mathematics and percentages you will also learn valuable lessons from your challenges. As you reach obstacles, that would make other quit, and view them as challenges you will eventually find a way that works! When Edison was interviewed, just before he invented the electric light bulb, he had “failed” in his attempts 9,999 times. When asked about these “failures” Edison replied, “I have not failed 9,999 times I have merely found 9,999 ways that do not work! On his 10,000 attempt he found the way that worked!
Any worthwhile goal takes commitment, persistence and work. When you set a goal it requires a certain amount of action to achieve it. You must continue your actions until you have mastered what you need to. If you give up at the first sign of a challenge you will achieve nothing.
In his famous book “think & Grow Rich” Napoleon Hill talks about the power of persistence. He states that the vast majority of people fail to attain their desires because they give up 2 feet from gold! What does this mean?
A man purchased a mine and found some gold. He was so convinced that it held more gold that he borrowed a small fortune from family and friends to fund his mining operations. He bought the equipment and started to mine the gold.
Everything was great, for awhile! Gold was pouring out of the mine, until, suddenly, the mine ran dry. No matter how much further he dug there was no gold to be had!
After months of trying in vain the man conceded defeat and sold his equipment to a scrap dealer. He was left deeply in debt and almost “broken”. He headed home.
Now the scrap dealer was a wiser man. He enlisted the help of a geologist who looked over the mine and told him to start digging 2 FEET in a different direction. The scrap man did what he was advised and found one of the richest gold veins in the country!
The morale of the story? Don’t stop short. The guy who sold the mine was only 2 feet from gold. Have you stopped 2 feet short of your gold mine?
Be persistent. Learn from your challenges and never stop! As Winston Churchill said is one of his most famous speeches at Harrow School, “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in!”
